Bandwidth Sharing and Admission Control for Elastic Traac
نویسنده
چکیده
We consider the performance of a network like the In-ternet handling so-called elastic traac where the rate of ows adjusts to ll available bandwidth. Realized throughput depends both on the way bandwidth is shared and on the random nature of traac. We assume traac consists of point to point transfers of individual documents of nite size arriving according to a Poisson process. Notable results are that weighted sharing has limited impact on perceived quality of service and that discrimination in favour of short documents leads to considerably better performance than fair sharing. In a linear network, max-min fairness is preferable to proportional fairness under random traf-c while the converse is true under the assumption of a static connguration of persistent ows. Admission control is advocated as a necessary means to maintain goodput in case of traac overload.

QoS in ATM : Theory and Practice
We consider joint traac management of Variable and Available Bit Rate (VBR,ABR) services for ATM networks. For VBR service we consider loss sensitive call admission for virtual trunks of such traac. For ABR traac we propose a ow control mechanism based on measurement of the current queue length and band-width availability, as well as tracking the current activity level of sources, to adjust an ...
متن کاملModel and Call Admission Control for Distributed Applications with Correlated Bursty Traac
As network capacities increase, wide-area distributed parallel computing may become feasible. This paper addresses one of the issues involved in using an asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) network for such a purpose|that of developing an appropriate call admission control (CAC) procedure for such applications given the special nature of their traac. In this proposal, connections belonging to the ...
متن کاملJoint Scheduling and Admission Control for ATS -
A joint scheduling and admission control algorithm is presented for Asynchronous Time-Sharing (ATS)-based switching nodes carrying real-time traac. Systems based on ATS guarantee quality of service, at both the levels of cells and calls, for three well-deened traac classes. A mechanism is outlined by which an admission control strategy can be tailored to a particular mix of traac by making use ...
متن کاملResource Management in Wide-Area ATM Networks using Effective Bandwidths
This paper is principally concerned with resource allocation for connections tolerating statistical quality of service (QoS) guarantees in a public wide-area ATM network. Our aim is to sketch a framework, based on eeective bandwidths, for call admission schemes that are sensitive to individual QoS requirements and account for statistical multiplexing. We begin by describing recent results appro...
متن کامل(sigma, rho) - Characterization Based Connection Control for Guaranteed Services in High Speed Networks
In this paper we present a method to establish real-time connections with guaranteed quality-of-services, based on per-session (;)-characterization. Under two distinctive service disciplines, rate proportional processor sharing and xed rate processor sharing, we derive tighter probabilis-tic bounds on per-session end-to-end average cell loss rate, which is caused by either buuer over-ow in the ...
